The Anatomy of a Great Esco Bars
When I was a kid, one of my favorite treats was an Esco bar. The chocolate coating covered a gooey, sticky filling that made it impossible to eat just one. Today, as an adult who knows better than to gorge on snacks that are high in fat and sugar, I still love the thought of making my own homemade esco bars. But how do you go about recreating this classic treat? Here’s what you need:
Pecans are the perfect nut to add to your esco bar recipe. They lend a sweet, nutty flavor and crunchy texture that pairs well with the buttery caramel and sweetness of powdered sugar. Experiment with different nuts in your esco bars—walnuts, almonds, peanuts—but keep the ratios consistent: 1 cup of nuts for every two cups of caramel base.
The other important ingredient? Powdered sugar! It makes up most of an esco bar’s bulk, so make sure to use a high-quality brand for optimal results (see our list below).
Brown sugar is a type of sugar. It’s made from sugar cane and has a delicious molasses flavor, which makes it perfect for esco bars. But brown sugar can be used in many other things, too! For example, you might use it in your coffee or on top of your ice cream.
It’s important to note that if the brown sugar you’re using isn’t actually brown (like white), then it’s not real brown sugar and therefore not good for anything other than making life difficult by giving people false expectations about what their desserts should taste like.
Butter is a dairy product made from cream. It’s solid at room temperature, and it can be used in many different kinds of foods. The process of making butter involves churning cream until it turns into butterfat and buttermilk. This can be done by hand or mechanically, depending on how much butter you want to make!
Butter is an important ingredient in Esco bar recipes because it helps hold everything together and gives the bars their characteristic taste.
Powdered sugar is made from granulated sugar that has been pulverized into a fine powder. It’s used in baking because it dissolves quickly and evenly, so that cookies bake evenly and don’t burn on the bottom before they’re done in the middle. The finer texture of powdered sugar also allows it to be used as an addition to frostings and icings (like cake batter), which results in smoother textures with less air bubbles than granulated sugar would create when mixed in with other ingredients. Powdered sugar also doesn’t melt at high temperatures, so it can be used instead of brown or white sugars when making certain types of candies or caramel topping for desserts like apple crisp or peach cobbler (see recipes below).
Powdered sugar will never turn into clumps even if you stir too much air into your mixture—but don’t worry! Just add more liquid until the consistency is right again so that your baked goods will come out just fine!
You’ll be happy to know that walnuts are a great source of antioxidants, omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin E and manganese. In fact, they have more antioxidants than any other nut or seed!
Walnuts are also good for your heart thanks to their ability to lower cholesterol and blood pressure. If you’re trying to lose weight or maintain a healthy weight, they can help because they’re packed with nutrients that keep you full longer than other fats do (which means less snacking).
Esco bars are made out of pecans, brown sugar, powdered sugar, butter and walnuts.
